I have already put my blog in and have had no replies so maybe this will be a better way to get some suggestions, I have had quiet a few operations originaly for a re-repair for hiatus hernia but things went wrong , I now suffer from dysfagia and not able to eat solid food I have tried to mash the food down etc but it just gets stuck, the preasure builds up and then comes back up.
the surgeon stated that he may have made a mistake as the lower part of my gullet no longer works and he things that the vagus nerve has been cut . does anyone have any suggestions in which ican eat, ithas been suggested that a tube will be used to feed me , I have had that already as well as an NG tube , and after all this surgery I contracted MRSA .
so overall I am not happy I would love to eat solid food again .
I look forward to hearing from you
thanks

Barry,
Sounds like you have really been put through a lot with your healthcare. I wish I had some answers for you but unfortunately I don't. I have gastroparesis along with some other conditions so some of your problems are very similiar.
I think if you will read some of the many comments and blogs posted on this site you may find some useful suggestions. If something in particular catches your attention, then do what you did with this post...ask! Or if someone has posted something that you can relate too, then post a reply to their post or blog (or make a friend request). I have found that everyone on the site is willing to answer or make suggestions to anything put to them.
As for eating solid foods...that is a very common problem on this site. I am luckier than some because I do have times I can get away with solids. However, my diet does consists of soups, and oatmeal most of the time. I know a lot of people have mentioned recipes for smoothies and soups that they have found they can digest and provides them some variety.
I do know that finallywell, also had surgery for a hiatal hernia and soon afterwards began having motility problems. So, you might be able to send her a message and see if she can share any insights for your particular situation. She's doing much better these days!
I hope that things improve for you soon. In the meantime, stay active on this site, present any questions or provide suggestions when something seems relevant to you...or just use it to vent some of your frustrations. I know I have benefited so much mentally and emotionally by corresponding with the other members.
I hope someone will be able to provide you with some suggestions soon.

Hi Barry,

I tried to write you a long reply. But for some reason it was blocked for too many non alphnumeric letters. I have alsolutely no idea what that means and was very frustrated. This ahs happened in the past when I have tried to write others. My story has differences but also a lot of simularities to yours. I actually read your blog and have been thinking on it. The problem is I don't know what to tell ya. I was told when I had the same surgery in 1994 that there was a real possablity of trouble with swallowing. I never really had that much trouble with it though. I do have to chew REALLY well, but that's about it. I've never had anything get stuck, but I have had the pressure you're talking about. It's miserable. I developed GP shortly after my surgery adn for the first 6 months or so they were convinced it was a complication of the surgery and even mentioned the possiblity of a severed nerve. It turned out in my case that my system had just stopped. No one knows why. I'm not sure how your medical care system works, but sometimes no matter how much you like and trust your doctor a second oppinion is a good idea. If you have that option available to you I think that might be a good idea. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Good Luck,
Marie

My whole wound opened up and all this green gunk came out stank very bad so now I am not sure what the iption will be, the present state of afairs is I still cant eat any solid food I have tried smoothies ect but as soon as I haveone I find it very hard to swallow as the preasure is still thier.I am at my wits end as not only do i have my family to look afterbut I have to try and manage to keep my strength up which is not easy. I get tired very easly which does ot please me one bit but I have no choice.
