Botox injection & Iberogast

0 Recommendations

Hello! I am wondering if anyone has tried Iberogast for GP or botox injections and had any luck. I am just out of the hospital and glad to be able to eat again, but would love to have an alternative to the 6 medications it takes for me to eat. Thanks in advance.

Bell,
I have had gp for 5+ yrs. Have the gastric pacer, and j-tube, and many meds. have had botox twice, and will have it again at the end of this month. It is helpful for a month or two, but is temporary and limited. In the same breath though I would recomend it. Any relief as I'm sure you know is great.
I have not heard of Iberogast. Can you tell me about it?

I am just now trying Iberogast. I got it from e-vitamins, it was around $30. It is a herbal supplement that has been marketed in Germany for over 50 years. My GI suggested trying it as it works well for some people. I found a study (don't remember where) on the internet that suggests it helps two types of GP but not others. I decided to try it. Thanks for the info on the botox. I have decided to try it at least once to see what kind of response I get.

I have been taking Iberogast for about 3-4 months now. I think it has helped my bloating and regurgitation. Not a super drastic difference, but enough that I will continue to take it!

I have had the botox about 5-6 times. it seemed to help at first but this last time, nothing...I'd still reccomend it! Any relief is better than none.
Good luck sweetie!

Hi babykityn,
My doc said that he would do the botox 2-3 times and then consider opening the valve permanently through surgery as the botox does become less effective, according to him. I do have a question for you. When your botox wore off was it gradually or pretty quickly that you noticed your symptoms come back? The last week and a half, I have started to get symptoms again, mostly in the evening, but not as bad as I was before the botox. Thanks.

I have had botox 4 times and each time it helped for a shorter period of time (from 4 months down to no noticeable difference). My dr. wants me to have a myotomy, but have yet to decide. Because I have a hypertensive upper and lower esophageal sphincter, he wants to do it on both ends. Afraid of aspirating in my sleep once this is done to be honest.

I was on domperidone for about 2 1/2 years. I started to get unwanted side effects from the drug and slowly weaned off of it. I took Iberogast in place of the 20 mg dose of domperidone that I was removing. It took 5 weeks to be domperidone free, with Dec. 20 being my last dose. I have noted no difference in my GP issues with the gradual shift in medication. I have started to see some of the domperidone side effects fade away.

Hope this helped. :)

I am doubling my dose of Domperidone and am curious as to what you noticed for side effects. The only thing I have noticed is dry mouth. Why did it take so long to wean off it. I am now concerned that I am getting into something I could get hooked on. Thank you for your post.

hi booters,

The side effects that I had may be desirable for some, but were not for me. It does raise your prolactin levels, and my hormones became way off balance.

My endo has been scratching her head wondering why she can not get my thyroid levels raised to an appropriate place. I also gained a significant amount of weight and it was not because I was eating enough to cause it. With the hormone issues, I began to deal with PMS that lasted all month.

That said...I am a complex case and was not sure if the domperidone was the cause of the issues I developed. I will say that after being off of it for about a month, I am noticing some improvement. I weaned off of it because I did not want my stomach to revolt. I figured my system was used to having it and did not want to just stop it, especially since it did change my hormone levels.

I was taking 20 mg four times a day. It was not as effective over time and the side effects became more noticeable than the benefit of the drug. If it works for you, that is wonderful. A dry mouth would not have concerned me either. All the best. :)

I had the botox injecton in Oct. 08 and I got no relief at all. I have lost 5 jobs because of GP and am waiting on disability or SSI so that I can have the gastro pace maker. I have heard that it takes up to a year to make a difference. What are you doing for the pain? I always have some pain, but at times it explodes and I'm laying in a ball crying my eyes out. Any advice is welcome. I use my blender for most of my meals and drink ensure + to get my calories in. But then I start feeling better and try a bit of "real" food. Sometimes it works and sometimes it backfires. I am also a brittle diabetic and the two diets really clash but I think I'm doin pretty good with it.

Hi, I tried Iberogast one time, but not enough to know if it would work. I do have it, and am thinking of putting myself on it. I def need to do something now. What 6 meds are you on, if its okay to ask.

I first got sick last Nov, started out not so bad, got real bad Thanksgiving w/e, with chronic severe nausea. Things were real bad til the end of Jan. Then I started feeling a little better (not back to normal though). But a cold and this month's period seems to have thrown me into a setback, though not (yet) bad as before *knock on wood*. The plan from my GI dr was to take reglan for a month to "get things going again" and I did fill it, but never take it. I am scared. But if things get bad again, I might. So b.c I am not feeling as good as I had been, I might even tomm start the Iberogast tomm. I also take aciphex, topamax for migraines, and remeron. None of this is fun, is it?

Love,

Lauren

I am on Iberogast and it has really lessened the pain for me. I am off the feeding tube now and doing great after my last botox injection. I have had 3 botox injections now, and it seems that 2 worked great and 1 not at all.
Good luck.

Hi, I know these are old posts but hoping someone can answer. How long did it take after the botox injection to notice a difference? I'm 4 days post-injection and feel just as bad as I ever have. I am a brittle diabetic (type 1) and sugars have been much better, but not sure if it's not just because I took off of work this week and don't have the normal stresses I usually do! Appreciate anyone's assistance.

Soltice - I think I became inflamed after the botox injections, because I was worse for a bit. It took a few weeks for the inflammation to go down and for me to see a difference. The Botox really helped me! I had it back in April. It was a slow gradual improvement. Yesterday, I wondered if it is starting to wear off.

Bette
