Better or worse since dx?

0 Recommendations

Hi everyone. Since being dxed with GP, have things gotten better or worse for you? Are your flares more frequent, more severe? Are they always the same? Just curious!

Love,

Lauren

Hi Lauren,

I was first diagnosed about 3 month ago when I was at my worse. I had finally gone to my primary care doc because my husband was sick of listening to me complain about being sick to my stomach for about 4 years. After going through what seemed like a million test and getting the dx, it took about 2 months before things got better. That is because I had to adjust my eating habits. I do cheat once in awhile, but I pay for it dearly. I need to stay away from fats and high fiber foods, but it is very hard in social settings. I feel very fortunate compared to a lot of folks who have much more severe symptoms than me. I wish you the best of luck.

I have ups and downs, mostly from eating a few things I shouldn't. I was diagnosed about 6 months ago, but have had GP for quite a few years. I'm not on nutritional support, but struggling to hang on to my weight. It's a really strange disorder.

I came close to death a few times so I would say a little better. But not remarkably better. The GP and colonic inertia are not better, but I'm on nutrition via a j-tube now so at least my issues are being addressed.

I was diagnosed last May, though probably had it longer. I've had ups & downs since. I don't have the throwing up version. Right now I'm in a good swing, two months & counting. I've figured out how to live best with it, which helps a lot. I cheat sometimes & it screws me up, but overall I'm doing well.

I am much better since my diagnosis, about 13 months ago. Till just about 3 months ago I was in a rapid decline with the pain getting worse and beginning to vomit and fight the nausea.
We tried several doctors and finally went to Cleveland Clinic. Each doctor found something new, but no solutions.
I had a life-threatening case of Clostridium Difficile in March 2008 that seemed to start my whole oddysey with gastroparesis. I also was diagnosed with pancreatitis at the same time, but that's been much debated since my diagnosis, depending on the doctor you talk to! :)
Cleveland Clinic found eosiniphils in my large and small bowel and the gastroenterologist there said that explained the severe pain, but if it wasn't caused by severe allergies or an auto-immune disease then I was going to have to accept that it was caused by the severe C. diff infection and go to pain management. Not what I wanted to hear since the tests came out negative for both problems. (allergies and auto-immune disease)
I had been researching and researching and went on a diet recommended by Jordan Rubin from a book he wrote with a gastroenterologist named Dr. Steven Brasco. I lived on a broth/soup for four weeks, (I was already down to mostly liquids.) and then began adding 30 hour yogurt and sourdough bread in moderation.
At the same time my family doctor put me on pancreatic enzymes and a gut relaxer. My family doctor also suggested I take an allergy medicine like Claritin just in case I had an unknown allergy. I also take several supplements recommended by Jordan Rubin/Dr. Brasco. I also have to take pills for my lactose intolerance that Cleveland Clinic found through testing.
My pain has gone from a daily battle with a 7-8 level and just trying to make it through one more day to a 1-3 and enjoying life again.
My diet is expanding every week! I still eat a lot of the Brasco broth but I am actually eating some meat, more vegetables, and even some oatmeal/honey cookies! Life is improving drastically for me!
I'm sorry this is lengthy but I'm trying to be completely honest and not just give credit to a diet alone. I call myself "managed" because if I overeat or forget my medication I am reminded of how sick and in pain I was.
Life is so much better for me and I felt like I was going to live with the extreme pain forever from what I was reading about my illnesses. I'm thankful for prayer, doctors, people on forums, and men like Jordan Rubin and Dr. Brasco that are out there to help people like us!

i have to wait till July to see another gastro as the one i saw last year did not really help me and some of the things he gave me actually made me worse...the waiting is making me crazy as i have had problems for a few years now and getting worse...i have tried many alternative therapies that help for awhile then stop working. I have tried the SCD for about 9 months with some relief but now after having a hectic stressful sched very bad again ie bloating and full uncomfortable feeling after eating and very slow abnormal elimination. Could someone tell me How their GP started and what led up to it and if any alternative therapy helped...does stress exacerbate symptoms...i do not throw up but do feel nauseated sometimes and sometimes not. Just want to make sure I am heading in the right direction as the wait is making me nuts. What diet is helpful in the mean time as i am afraid to eat...i am eating kind of a candida/SCD no grain diet now but still feel like my body is rejecting all food. I eat my homemade yogurt that used to make me feel better but now it seems to make me feel sick..oatmeal used to feel ok same with apples... but again it feels bad after eating...I am very confused and frustrated. It feels like I am alergic to all food...trying to find one that does not make me react is challenging...cooked raw pureed what!? Sorry to sound like a crazy woman but I used to be sane and just in pain but now this is affecting me mentally too!

I'm better than I was a year ago. Well, until I had caffeinated coffee the other day. Now I'm not so good- but that is totally my fault! I do better when I'm more active. Which does NOT help with my need to be lazy!

Hey Lauren, i got dignosed 2 1/2 years ago. It was really bad then, then it got better for a little bit not much but better, and now it's at it's worse. For me it seems that every few months or so it goes from bad to worse. I hope this doesn't happen to you. Keep in touch. Hope you're having a good tummy day!
