A Pool of Liquid in My Abdomen!

For the past few weeks it sounds like I've got an olympic sized pool sloshing around in my abdomen, and nothing makes it go away! If I press on it, even gently, it sloshes and gurgles, and sometimes sounds like a leaky faucet dripping. Yikes. Does anyone else have this problem, and if so, do you know what in the heck it is? I see my GI doc on Wednesday, but he isn't the most helpful guy. I am able to take in less and less all the time, and can only eat liquids. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, It sounds like even liquids aren't passing from your stomach. I'm no expert but if it were me I would be getting into a doctor to get help. I'm sorry you are going through this. Digestive diseases can be so frustrating and painful.

Do you take laxatives? When I drink miralax and take the rest of my usual laxatives I can sometimes feel and hear the buildup of water in my bowels, which I always just assume is from the laxatives drawing liquid to my stool. If i press on my lower abdomen or move it around i can hear water sloshing around as well!

Wow, this has been my problem for the last year! my abdomen is huge and I'm on a strick diet and not losing any weight, I also have seen a G.I and he says everything is normal, I've had gastric bypass surgery about 11 years ago and this is the first time something like this has happened. I'm leaning toward seeing a specialist in this type of surgery, I know something is wrong with the surgery or my intestines, it could be scar tissue to, I've heard. let me know what your gi says.....

yes, i have the exact same problem too. i have slow transit constipation and per gastro's advice --because nothing else works--i take both stimulant laxatives and milk of mag (for me, miralax doesn't work and makes things even worse). on most days my abdomen is hugely bloated and sloshy--like a washing machine stuck on rinse. even my transverse colon feels full of the stuff--like the liquid stool etc is stuck in there. miserable. the only time i don't feel that way is when the laxatives work really well and i evacuate most everything in there.

i keep bringing this up with my gastro and his solution--take more osmotics! that just makes it worse. he doesn't seem to get that...

I slosh around at times, but I think my stomach emptying varies a little bit as my fullness/appetite/nausea waxes and wanes a little bit.

Mine makes that sound daily, although mine is a lot of air, with a little fluid, I think. I can make it really loud by breathing deeper, sounds so gross! Mine is up high on left side. My kids like for me to show their friends. I am a side show freak! Usually drinking a little sprite or alkaseltzer helps.

Any possibility that you have ascites? A build-up of free fluid in the peritoneal cavity. It is oft associated with liver distress but can have several other root causes/sources.

I don't have the issues that have been stated, hopefully never do. I have so many others, but I had to comment on cecchful's post. The other day I was out and in the ladies room and was having a very long moment in there, and I heard so many others coming in, doing their thing and leaving. I was so jealous! LOL, I kept thinking geeze how nice it would be to get cramps, go to the potty and it all worked so quickly and not be in there for what seems like eternity. I have gotten to the point though if out and about with the family and this feeling finally comes on, I take them to the store that has the most for them to do without me so they dont get bored. It has taken so much from me, I wont let it make me stay inside too.

I slosh too, and at times it sounds like a coke bottle being emptied out when it finally starts moving. Are you hooked up with a motility specialist yet?

I have a GI doctor--is that the same as a motility specialist? Mine sounds like that too--like my entire abdomen is filled with water, and I can hear it dripping sometimes like a leaky faucet! Have you found out what causes yours?

I do take laxatives--milk of magnesia. I don't know if that is what is going on though, because the fluid seems to be increasing and I get full even after a few drinks of water. I see my GI doc on Wednesday, so hopefully I can get this figured out. Maybe it's just part of the GP though, and there isn't anything that can be done.

A motility specialist is a GI who specializes in motility problems. Usually, they work at University centers. AGMD's website has a list of motility specialists.

Hope this helps!
