Well I survived my week of radiotherapy. I didn't expect many problems as radiotherapy was the easy part last time and I had many more sessions. At various stages I had severe nausea and diarrhea which made me feel miserable and the anti nausea meds make me loopy. The doctors weren't sure whether it is the radiotherapy or a reaction to various meds so suggested I stop taking the arimadex for a few days and see what happens. The Zometa infusion hasn't caused many side effects, just some aching which seems to be responding to mild painkillers.
It is so confronting at the radiotherapy centre because you realise you are not the only person dealing with this terrible disease. Most of the patients are elderly but there are children and people in the prime of their life. I met a beautiful young woman, around my age with small children, who was so scared that a delay in her radiotherapy would have tragic consequences. She had a tumor in her abdomen that grew from nothing to the size of her head in 3 months- needless to say that put things in perspective for me. After having chemo she was worried about how radiotherapy would effect her but was reassured by the fact that I found it much easier than chemo.
My husband decided to fall in love with a dog at the pound so now we have 2 dogs- a beagle and a beagle x (which I call a beagle surprise cos you don't know what they will be like). I am thinking this may not be the best timing, but its done now. My Dad had surgery yesterday to fuse his ankle and is making life interesting for the nurses because he keeps thinking he can walk- otherwise why would they let him have crutches? Luckily he was at the same hospital as me so he is easy to visit.
Sorry about rambling on, it is 5am and I can't sleep. Not looking forward to this week as the weather people have just announced we are entering the biggest heat wave ever in November for our area- I hate hot weather!
