triple negative metastatic with malignant pleural effusion

0 Recommendations

A friend of mine who lives in Los Angles with metastatic triple negative breast cancer would like to speak with someone in her similar situation. She has metastasis to her lungs with malignant pleural effusion. She's had a lung tap (thoracentesis), lung VATS biopsy, lung pleurodesis with talc and is currently on Xeloda. A year before her mets diagnosis she had Cytoxan and Taxotere for stage 1 breast cancer. Her doctors recommend she have one more round of Xeloda and then start on Adriamycin and Cytoxan.

She would especially like to speak with someone who has dealt with or is dealing with malignant pleural effusion and is metastatic triple negative.

If you or someone you know is available to speak with her, please email me your name, city you live in, phone number and email address and a short description of your history.

Feel free to forward this on to someone who may be able to help or to place this email on a bulletin board or chat site.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Get hold of my doctor, Sara Hurvitz, at UCLA.
She is a research scientist in charge of the breast cancer clinical trials at UCLA, works for the doctor that came up with Herceptin and mentioned a triple negative clinical trial to me with PARP inhibitors just the other day. There is much excitement on the PARP, so much so they rebiopsied my tumors to see if I could get in. Unfortunately my estrogen was still positive.

Dr. Hurvitz is as good as you can get, I've fought my cancer for 7 years now and have never met a better , more caring doctor. She's out of the office the rest of the week....but do call and make an appointment.

Dear Beth A,
I am a triple negative BC with mets to lung and possibly one spot on spine. I was stage 1 treated with epirubicin, cytotoxan, 5fu which I now know are not very effective in triple negative. Currently the best choice is a platinum based drug like cisplatin combined with Gemzar. I just started this regime so I will let you know how it turns out. I think your friend should get a second opinion about her treatment options and try to get in a PARP trial if possible.
I'm new to the stage 4 game...but i am keeping my spirits up and trusting God for healing.
Love,

There is a site for triple negative breast cancer with a lot of information and others with TN. The site is:

tnbcfoundation.org

Under Forums there is a Metastasis/Recurrence discussion board like this one.

Your friend will find many welcoming triple negative metsters there. I think some of the founders are in the LA area.

Best wishes,

Terry

I don't know if I can be of help, but I think I meet your criteria to respond to this posting. klynn.brown@gmail.com I do not faithfully read my e-mail everyday. Put something in the subject line that will catch my eye: InspirePosting

Hello,
We have the PARP clinical trial open here at our cancer center. It is for met. triple negative breast cancer patients. It uses Gemcitabine with Carboplatin along with the study drug BSI which is the PARP inhibitor. The title of the study is BiPar 20090301 and the call center number for information is 1 866 668-2232 or you can go to www.clinicaltrials.gov. We are seeing excellent results so far and I think your friend needs to look into getting on this clinical trial.

Blessings
Eileen
