Low dose Adriamycin

0 Recommendations

I have been on Xeloda and Avastin for the past few months and was feeling great. Now my onc feels that my mets to my skin are growing again and spreading across my chest.
She now wants to try low dose adriamyn 1 day a week for 3 weeks then a week off.
Has anyone had this and what have been your side effects? I remember getting it when I was first diagnosed and I called it the "Jim Jones Kool-aid"
YUCK! Doc says I shouldn't have any side effects.

If anyone has any information on this I would love it!

No side effects? That makes me suspicious, there always seem to be side effects, especially with the "red devil". You can always try it and hope it holds the beast at bay.

I have read of a couple of Clinical Studies for chest wall recurrences. It sounds like that may be what you are dealing with. A couple of these studies are using Doxil (doxorubicin encapsulated in a closed lipid sphere liposome, a form of Adriamycin). Perhaps check out these Clinical studies, maybe this is what your doctor is suggesting. I am presently on TDM-1(clinical study) for chest wall recurrence. I have also been on Navelbine and Herceptin, Etoposide and Herceptin, Gemzar and Herceptin, Taxol and Herceptin. Perhaps you might want to take a look at the below studies to see if anything is applicable to you. Good luck and take care. Go to www.Clinicalstudies.gov
NCT00006433 Doxil at Duke
NCT00899574
NCT00826085 ThermoDox and Microwave Herpertherapy

There's a little bit of controversy about Doxil for MBC: http://bcaction.org/index.php?page=fda-090715

I found the review very insightful. I know and respect Vernal Branch from NBCC, who wrote the commentary. She is very current and thorough in her research, thus I would put quite a bit of credence in her review. I am sure she would be happy to chat with you. I could put you in contact with Vernal if you would like. Message me if you would like me to forward her e-mail to you.

I had Doxil and it worked very well when nothing else had (7 or 8 prior regiments). I had to discontinue due to the side effects. I am now on navtrone, a sister drug and it too is working well. Just trying to manage the side effects.

I'm confused... is Adriamycin and Doxil the same drug?

Can someone please help explain.

And thank you all for your responses! ~Suz
