Liver Symptoms

For those who have liver mets, did you have any symptoms or if not how did they find it? I try not to be paranoid but have had some mild pain in my right upper abdomen just under the ribs and don't know if it could be gall bladder or the liver. I hate to call the Dr. for something that might be nothing. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.

Hi,
I was just diagnosed with liver mets a couple of months ago. I did have tenderness under my right side ribs. The PET/CT showed numerous mets, but also an extended gall bladder. It could just be your gall bladder. I go for my third chemo at University of Michigan on Tuesday; so far so good. I would definitely get it checked out; the worrying without knowing is hard.
Good luck to you,
Carla

Dear Harpangel,
Did you have surgery in past few weeks? A mastectomy? I had a bilateral mastectomy and had various aches and pains for two or three months after. Like you I worried that every one was a new tumor. I especially remember having pain across my ribs under my incision. I was afraid it was bone mets to the ribs. All of those pains turned out to be related to the surgery. I still have pains occasionally in the chest area.
As for my symptoms, I had none at all. I went for my usual mammogram which showed a breast tumor. After the surgery I had a Pet scan that showed one small tumor in my liver.
It wouldn't hurt to check with your doctor. I'm sure he's accustomed to patients who are worried about pain.

From what I have read, gall bladder pain extends to the middle of your back around the waist and into the shoulder. Liver and pancreas symptom is yellowing of the skin especially in the whites of the eyes. Have it checked just to be sure though. Nothing to quander about; call your dr and make an appt to get this resolved immediately. Good luck.

I was diagnosed with liver mets April 2007 while actually being checked for something else. At the time I did have some discomfort in my right rib area which I thought was related to weight gain, but was actually the liver mets. I've not had pain since except for two months when I was off Herceptin; then it was again in the right rib area, across my rib cage and right side of my back. I've not had yellow eyes or skin, I think that is a really late symptom.

I agree that anything that causes you worry is worth a mention to the Doctor, your peace of mind is what's most important now!

Debi had mets to the liver and did have the same pain. I too agree, ask your ONC to order an Ultrasound this will let you know for sure. Each person is different and you never know what God has in mind.

GOD bless you and all who come in contact with you.

Scott

My precious Terrie had the same pain/probs. as gasketmans precious Debi.
When the liver ultrasound confirms this then you know that it requires Tx. (Each person is/has individual symptoms & responds differently to treatments).

The drs. did however think she may have had an g/bladder blockage which caused her liver #'s to alert them, however. So to rule out if it was a blockage they did the scan and u/sound. Depending ....on the outcome we were told the only way to correct a blockage was to put in a "stent" to open the bile duct because blockage would have backed up bile causing other problems.

However.....caution here. Get this...it was not a gallbladder problem at all. She had a yellowish cast to her and that signaled to me liver failure. Duh? When I questioned them.....they said they could do no more for us and sent us home on hospice.
Like I said b-4 her last breath on earth was her first breath in Heaven. Every day I live with that thought which is comforting.

It is always better to have any pain checked out. Your Dr will understand. I have liver mets, but have no pain from them. My cancer was first discovered in my femur, when I experienced a pain that I couldnt explain, other than to say, "my leg hurts". It took three doctors to finally take an xray and discover the tumor at the top of my right femur. If you have pain, something is causing it and it is your right to find out what the heck is going on! Good luck with everything!

I had pain in that area for years and they often checked my liver. It turned out I had a met to the right 8th rib. Go figure. Get it checked out and make sure they also check your bones.

I had started noticing a few months before being diagnosed, that when I would lie down to watch television, my back would hurt and I would feel sick and have a slight discomfort (like wind) middle of my chest.
Eventually, one day, awoke with bad back pain, had trouble breathing and a pain that radiated from my right shoulder all the way down my arm.

Def. have anything that is worrying you checked-out.

Yes, you have every right to ask them to check into this.
You deserve the peace of mind .
I am saying a prayer for you.
Blessings,
Kris
