How long since stage IV diagnosis?

20 Recommendations

One year ago, I received an initial stage IV diagnosis. I was helped by reading the posts of other women who fought the alligators for so long. I realized I could also fight this disease!

I just wanted to see how long each of you have been stage IV?

Diagnosed Stage IV 02/08. Found through pain in bones. Could not find tumor until bone marrow biopsy said it came from the left breast. So much for getting yearly mammograms. No surgery, some rad. for pain in lower back. On Arimidex and monthly infusion of Zometa. I did not ask for a prognosis ( I figured I would not be a number) nor did my onc. give me one. Onc. said to treat this as a chronic disease (much like diabetes) and could live with this for at least 10 years. My attitude is that I can do this for 10 years and by then they should have something else to treat this disease which will give me another 10 years.

Found lump in right breast: Dec. 08.
No health insurance; could not afford County hospital clinic 280.00 per appt. charge.
Lump doubled in size March 09; went to ER.
Locally advanced Stage 3A---April 09.
Having chemo now, R modified radical mastectomy, L mastectomy in Autumn 09; Radiation in 2010.

Looking forward to years of living.

Will fight and fight---and not give up!

I was diagnosed Stage IV Inflammatory breast cancer in right breast 7/08.Did 3 months Taxol/Avastin, had significant tumor shrinkage, had surgery 11/08 and finished 3 months chemo. 6 out of 12 nodes + with mets in lungs. Had 35 radiation treatments and started Tamoxifen in 4/09. Latest scans showed more lung activity, so switched to Arimidex 6/09.

Initial diagnosis was Stage IV in January 2008.
