Energy Drinks

0 Recommendations

Hi Girls,

Has anyone taken an Energy Drink during Chemo? Is it O.k. to drink Energy Drinks? Do they work? Which One? Sorry, a lot of questions but this new Chemo I've started Taxotere/Carblotin (Sorry, I know I spelled incorrectly) is really running me down. I get 8 hrs. of sleep, take a shower, get dressed and need to lay down again. Looking for any suggestions that will help.

Thanks in advance.

Hugs and prayers to all!!!!!!!!

Dehydration

I haven't heard anything about energy drinks and chemo, but I would check with your doctor about anything like this when mixed with chemo and steriods just to be sure :> lisa

I would check what chemicals these drinks have in them, and how much sugar, which is not good. Sugar can give an instant "rush" but it will not last.

Have you thought of trying juices? There must be some books in the US that will tell you what to juice to raise energy levels. This is something you can do at home to make fresh organic juices minus the chemicals and refined sugars.

It is always worth looking at a natural alternative. What about 3 peaches, 3 apricots and 1 mango?
25 blackberries, 2 apples and 1 pineapple?
4 apples, 3 large carrots and 2 teaspoons of spirulina?
These are from a little book I got The Top 100 Juices by Sarah Owen, which has many others. There are loads of other books as well.

Also are you drinking enough as dehydration can cause fatigue?

What about drinks like Boost or Ensure? These were highly recommended when I went through chemo, along with lots of water and juice. Granted, I wasn't on the same cocktail as you, but, it'd be worth asking the doc about (or call the triage nurses - they will be happy to answer those kinds of questions).

I know what you're saying about the energy level, though. It sucks and seems like it's never going to go away, but it does get better. I'm wrestling with the same problem right now with my after effects of radiation. Just have no damn energy at all. Hope you start to perk up soon. :)

When I started this round of femara, I was very fatigued for about a month. I do a lot of vitamins and minerals and I am no longer tired. I would watch the energy drinks - along with sugar sometimes they have ingredients in them that actually are bad for you - whether you are on chemo drugs or not. I have also gone organic as much as possible to rid my body of those chemicals they treat food with and give to the animals to make them produce more. This is especilally true of dairy and egg products as well as poultry and meat. What they ingest, we ingest.
