There seems to be very little informtion on this topic for the metastatic setting. I was wondering if your doctor kept you on an aromatase inhibitor during chemotherapy.
Thank you.

Mine stopped it...one of the reasons the cancer started growing again was apparantly that the inhibitor was not longer doing it's job. I could actually tell about when it quit working as I got underarm odor back - which I didn't have while the estrogran blocker worked.
Taken Off of Aromisin when I began Taxol/Avastin. I was told that some hormonal therapies may actually diminish the effectiveness of the chemotherapy. Some people seem to be on Faslodex and a chemo agent, but that may because faslodex works a little differently than Arimidex and Aromsin.
hope this helps, it seems to be the standard approach. b
Beebie, are you still on estradiol?
DJ
My reoccurrence happened after 7 years while on Femara for 4 years, prior to that tamoxifen. I went on Faslodex, Xometa, and Aromasin. Numbers spiked after 3 months. Was taken off Aromasin, kept on the others and added Xeloda last September. Worked like a charm until this past July. Onc. took me off Faslodex for reasons Beebie stated. My count got down to 40 from 240 when I started Xeloda. Next month, number went up 40pts. I asked to be put back on Faslodex because that was the only thing that had changed. Numbers crept up for the next two months. Onc. decided to take me off Faslodex again stating it wasn't working and added weekly Nalvabine. Had the 2nd dose yesterday and am still on Xeloda and Aromasin.
So, to answer your question, yes.
Stay strong. Can you imagine going through this without the internet?
I have heard/read different stories about combining hormone and chemotherapies.
From your stories, I read that Faslodex (fulvestrant) and Aromasin (exemastane) are being combined with chemotherapy.
Does anybody have experience in combining tamoxifen and a chemo? Our onc says that this is not an option, because tamoxifen makes the tumor go 'inactive', while chemo causes the tumor to be 'active'. Combining the two therapies would render both ineffective.
Any thoughts?
Thankx,
Momda
hey dj: boo boo, no longer on estradiol. Worked nicely for short time, about 3 months. Gave me a real psychic boost if nothing else. Felt more clear headed and energetic. No wonder women like hrt! Anyway, surpressed tumor growth briefly, then it started up again. Tried a short course of Aromasin which didnt work either. Have just finished first course of Taxol/ Avastin, hope this will do the trick. One doc suggested that I could take a break from the Taxol in a few months and try Faslodex. that would be nice, Thanks for asking, b
