Greetings:

I agree acupuncture works! I visited an acupuncturist for the first time in March 2007 (over a year ago). At the time, I had had orthopedic surgery on my left knee and was walking with a cane and I had a bad limp. The orthopedic surgeon had given me 2 steroid shots and recommended that I take these shots every 3 months, the rest of my life. I was informed that one of the side effects of steroid shots was weight gain and I had gained 6 pounds with taking only 2 shots. My goal was to lose 100 pounds to take pressure off my knee joints. With a warning from my orthopedic surgeon that I wouldn't have quality of life if I didn't take the steroid shots because I would be in constant pain, I refused to take my third steroid shot and slowly and painfully limped out of his office using my cane.

The next week, I called an acupuncturist that I had chatted with two years before at a health fair. My condition was advanced, therefore for 3 months, I had to visit him every week. Afterwards, I visited him 2 months every other week and then once a month for 3 months. Within two months, my cane went in the closet because my leg muscles were strong enough to hold me up and my leg no longer gave way from-time-to-time. My limp entirely left three months after that. I felt strong and what was remarkable, I felt very little pain and stiffness.

After 10 months of visiting my acupuncturist, I had no pain. Now, I visit him whenever I want to, not for pain management put for a tune up so that I don't have pain. My last appointment was in August of last year. I plan to go in for tune ups in January, February, and March and then every 3 months after that.

I tell everyone who will listen about my experiences with acupuncture. I don't take prescribed medication. My acupuncturist put me on daily vitamins -- magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and B12. I was already taking a multi-vitamin and getting weekly massages. He also taught me techniques to de-stress and enjoy every moment of life!

My life is simplier, prescription drug-free, and so much improved because of my regular acupuncture treatments. I suggest that everyone give acupuncture a try for at least 3 months to see if it's something they need to add to their wellness plan.
