Update on surgery date

Saw the gyn/onc surgeon today in the cities and he has scheduled me for a hysterectomy/exploratory surgery on Monday, July 6th. Hubby & I will travel down Sunday the 5th and check into the guest apartments. (We checked in today, and checked out the same day, having to pay the $65 dollar a night fee and didn't even get to enjoy the room!) Oh well.
Surgeon says he won't know anything until he gets "in there" and send tissue, etc. to pathology. He did feel the main tumor and it is quite large. He will also "stage" me at that time. I should be out of the hospital Thursday or Friday of next week, so not a long stay at all! I will keep all of you sweet ladies posted on my progress. (Will post after my surgery)

Hugs...

Glad things are getting under way for you. The surgery is a little rough, but you'll feel a little better every day. Just hang in there and take one thing at a time. You'll do just fine! ;)

I am so glad you posted. I have been wondering all day how things went.

I know you are both relieved and apprehensive about your upcoming surgery. I hope it goes as well as possible.

You will be in my thoughts all next week. Let us know how you are doing as soon as you feel up to it.

Sending good thoughts your way for next week. So sorry that you had to join our little club. You will get very good advice here. For now, just get through the surgery and staging. The next steps will fall into place after that. If you feel that there is too much information coming at you, don't feel that you have to process it all right away.

It won't be as bad as you imagine or as good as you wish for,,good good luck and everyone here is a wonderful resource for you with tips and such.

My first tip,,brush, floss and use a fluoride rinse daily twice a day. I never have a cavity and had fifteen, yes fifteen, along with two root canals four months after surgery. I think I was just drinking shakes all day and lying around not paying attention.

ANd a nice Dilaudid drip with a self administer button is great after surgery!!! Pat

Dear Goldi, I wish you the best outcome possible. Hang in there. I remember the time before my second surgery as one of the most difficult but things get much better. Write a note after your surgery so we know how it went.

Hugs, Elmira

Hello,

All the best for the surgery and which you a good outcome. Remember every day is somewhat easier from the previous one.

Goldi I pray you are not too overwhelmed with all the stuff going on, just know that all of us here have you in our thoughts and prayers as Monday gets here. It really wasn't a bad surgery at all, worst part being when the nurse took the catheter out, she yanked it out and my bladder spasmed and I thought I would come unglued, but I felt a little better each day and I was totally amazed at how fast the body bounces back after that, I m always amazed at open heart patients, how they are up and out of bed almost immediately. The Lord made a fearfully wonderful body, didn't He? But hang in there and stay positive! I wanted to ask you if you had a church body that you are a part of? That was so very important to me, that I had people that I was connected with praying for me and a pastor who could pray over me. Just wondering.
Blessings to you, my dear friend!
Bev

Best wishes to you. I hope you don't get too overwhelmed.
Take it one day at a time.

Thanks again to all of you who posted! I'm constantly amazed & thrilled at the love I receive from all of you terrific women! I remarked to my husband just now that you are saying things like "I thought of you all day", etc. and I told him how amazed I am that people can just reach out like that with so much love when they've never even met you! All of you truly have so many gifts and I count myself lucky to be a part of this group! Yes, lucky!
Bev asked about my church. I am a part of a wonderful little Baptist church and they have been praying for me constantly along with the pastor. My family, extended family & friends have also put me on their churchs' prayer chains. So, along with the prayers from all of you and some of your churches, how can a person possibly lose? : ) Bev, I'll warn the nurse that I have very crazy reflexes in my legs and have been known to kick if ANYTHING is yanked out of my body suddenly! ha ha
I want you all to know that I am here for you also. I feel a little guilty sometimes when I know that all of you are going through this also! I love you all!
Hugs...

My doc's LNP was the one to take out my catheter. I had to come home from the hospital with it and keep it a week longer due to my bladder surgery. I asked her if it would hurt. She said, "No, it's more like a little 'ZING.' Ready? One, two , three!" ZING was right!

Goldi,

I don't think I had a catheter. If I did, they must have taken it out that first day/night because I don't remember it.

What are they telling you about the pancreatic test?

You're in our thoughts and prayers!

Blessings.

verlinda, the doctor didn't really talk much about the pancreatic test. He told me that the cancer markers tests could be due to endometriosis. My husband & I got the feeling that he really didn't want to talk about things that he didn't have any proof of yet. This kind of made me mad at first, but I suppose if he paints this whole story of how bad it COULD be and he is wrong that would be worse. He was just very careful with his words, and stressed that we would cross other bridges when and if we got to them. Doctors can be so strange sometimes. However, I feel totally confident in his abilities and having him be the one who operates when I'm under the knife. I go in this afternoon to my regular clinic for a mammogram and blood work checking my liver and kidney function, etc. He wants to be careful that he knows exactly what's what when he goes in - no surprises. Thanks for the post! As for the catheter, I've had them before and sometimes they've been taken out before I'm really "with it" and other times soon after surgery. It's a really weird sensation. We'll have to see which they do with me.

Goldi,
It sounds like you have a very good doctor. I live in St. Paul, MN and know quite a few of the gyn/oncs now. I wish you the very best and do know that you will be held especially in my prayer on the 6th all day. Although this is not an easy journey, we are here for you. And it sounds like you have a great spirit and much good support from friends, family and church. Peace, Mary

Thank you for your post, Mary! I was comforted to read that you live in St. Paul and know some of the docs. Also, what you said about my doctor. Maybe it's also a good omen that I was born in St. Paul 43 yrs. ago. Going back to my birthplace for this big event! who knows...
Thank you for thinking of me on the 6th! I am convinced that when the final moments before surgery sneak up on me and I start to panic, I will remember all of you beautiful women thinking of me at that moment! God bless you, Mary

Best of luck to you. You are in my prayers.

It was mentioned on one of our posts that some were getting epidurals for pain control. I did not have this my first surgery but with my recent (may 13) surgery I requested it and it helped immensley. I dont think I spelled that correctly, however, see if they will give you one before surgery.

God Bless
Melissa

Hey! Melissa - I never even thought of that! An epidural sounds like a great idea. Anything to help with the pain, huh? I will, most definetly, mention it on Monday! Thanks so much for the tip. Thank you also for your thoughts and prayers. I hope your surgery went well. Bless you!
Hugs...Lisa
