PAIN: Can you describe it?

0 Recommendations

Yesterday my doctors decided to lower my pred to 20 mg. Last evening I was sitting in my chair and a headache hit... suddenly... along with a stomach ache that bent me over.
I took an Ambien and went bravely to bed. Woke up painfree.
Gratitude for not being in constant pain walks with me everyday. Nothing that Aleve couldn't help. etc.
Is the pain connected to Prednisone?
Dropped from 60mg to 30mg with no apparant side effects??? Except emotional overload.
Am I whining too soon? LOL... or not

carosu, sorry to dissapoint you but the drop from 60 to 30 causes whining! That is quite a drop unless it was gradual. Emotional overload is commen with a withdrawal. You may also have a "crash" when you come off of the sone. I crashed 3 times before I finally got off the stuff. It was so severe that the pain and nerve symptoms were exxagerated when I came down, that I had to go back on several times and wean off more slowly. It is tough. We are all here for you. Whine away!! This is the place you can do that and no one will tell you to stop it!!

Hey carol we're allowed to whine that's what this site is for you've heard me do it sufficient times so it's your turn. Headaches and cramping are a common side effect of pred drops and may indicate too fast of withrawal however if they only last a day and you are okay and you can handle it that's cool because the faster you are off pred the better you are the less likely you are that your loved ones will murder you in your sleep. At least that is the way my loved ones feel.

Thanks ... I needed to laugh. I have been having fits and blaming my daughter for causing them. The most frustrating part is I STILL believe it to be her fault! The mind is a strange organ.

Your posting helped to clarify why, and how, dropping Pred could cause pain. I was thinking that the sarc was acting up causing unfamiliar pain.

So, I will continue the drop and monitor. Thanks again Carole

Hi Carole,
That 10 mg drop was a big one. The symptoms are likely due to the drop. When I went from 60 down to 20, each little decrease brought more pain. I too noticed that headaches were present. Then, it seems I leveled out again at 20 mg and the headaches stopped, but I still feel more achy pain. But, that's better than the high dose pred issues I had.
Hope today is better and continues good.

I am on low-dose steroids for adrenal failure, my adrenal glands don't produce the cortisol or steroids my body needs to function. When my body is low on cortisol because I haven't taken enough steroids, I get severe headaches, stomach aches and nausea and mood swings.

When a person with normal adrenal glands goes on steroids, their adrenal glands stop producing cortisol and other steroids because it senses the already existing level of steroids taken orally. When the oral steroids are reduced, it takes quite some time for the adrenals to begin producing their own steroids again. That's why steroid doses have to be reduced very slowly, so the body can "catch up" and start producing it's own steroids again.

Low steroid (cortisol) levels can be very dangerous and even fatal! People go into shock and die from this. If you experience headaches and GI problems from reducing steroid doses, you probably are reducing your dose too fast. Please be careful!

It's the pred withdrawl symptom...lol...that's what I call it....and it's awful!!!! Whine all you want...we understand.....hope you get better soon...More love

THE STEROIDS DOCTORS PRESCRIBE ARE WONDERFUL MEDICINES. BUT YOU HAVE TO BE VERY VERY CAREFUL IN THEIR USE. SIDE EFFECTS ARE NUMEROUS. IF YOU WANT TO STOP OR DECREASE THEIR USE FOLLOW YOUR DOCTOR'S ADVICE LITTERALLY TO AVOID DISASTER.

Please read carefully Sickof beingsick's posting here. This is a good explanation. That was a huge drop and very cruel. You must be suffering.

I have been on Prednisone for 20 months. In May I was on 100mg for a month, then my Dr. had me drop to 80mg for 5 days, then 60mg for 5 days. I was in very bad shape by the 10th day of tapering. I went into the office to see him and I thought it was the rapid taper that caused my symptoms. He said it was the Sarc affecting my brain again and to stay on 60mg and not taper any more. He also started me on CellCept which is a transplant drug to stop the body from attacking itself.

I don't know what your original symptoms were but it might be something to consider. We are all different and all have different responses.

Question...KaraLee...your post caught my eye...CellCept...never heard of it...but if sacr is a illness that is created by the body attacking itself and your doc prescibed you this med...that which is a drug to stop the body from attacking itself...why is this the first time of me hearing of it...meaning why isn't that drug posted on all the different websites for sarc??? And if it is so effective why are you still on predisone? Allow me to say I am not questioning you...I am questioning the drug. And 100mg was a very high dosage....how are you feeling now?
And Sickofbeingsick...what wonderful advice......
