So, I am thirty years old, have no children (though would like to), am otherwise healthy, and have never had an irregular pap until last May. I went on birth control for the first time this year and I think I may have got HPV from my husband, since we no longer used condoms. Anyway, I had a colpo and the biopsy came back mild dysplagia. Now, they want to do a LEEP procedure, but I am worried that this may be a little too radical. Is this mode of treatment premature, since I've not had any follow-up paps yet?

When you say mild dysplasia - do you mean CIN1 or CIN2? My doctor said that CIN1 can often clear up on its own but CIN2 / CIN3 usually needs treatment. Even if it is CIN2, waiting and monitoring is an option. You could wait and have another colposcopy in three months and actively try to clear it (vitamins, exercise etc.). Did your doctor tell you why he/she wants to go straight to LEEP?

Thinking of you.

My doctor said when scheduling my leep that since I'm done having children he thought the leep would be a good procedure for me...... I know many women have posted on here about getting pregnant after a leep or cone - actually have someone in my family who has 2 little ones after a cone procedure so it is possible. If it is just mild dysplasia you may want to wait to see if you clear it on your own to keep your cervix healthy & strong to carry a baby.....talk to you doctor though - they will know more than me:)! Wishing you all the best!!

IEAGP: Well, in my opinion it is premature, but then again...I am not a doctor. I really think that waiting for atleast 3 months is an okay thing to do. BUT, during that 3 months you may have to change a lot of what you are doing at the present.

#1. Stop smoking if you do; start taking a multi-vitamin, some vitamin C, and BioResponse DIM (found in cruciferous veggies), as I have just been reading on, has been clinically proven to aid in clearing dysplasia and dormatizing HPV in woman between the ages of 18-80. Check the sites out that I have placed below for you:

Ultimately, this decision is up to you, personally, I would wait at least 3 months and try to clear mild dysplasia on my own. Keep in mind, there is no way to tell how quickly dysplasia will grow in each individual. You COULD (could, being the key word because it really wouldn't be likely) go from mild dysplasia to severe dysplasia within that 3 months. I don't want to freak you out, but we are all here trying to be "honeslty informative" :o) But like I said, I am 33 and I would wait. Discuss this option with your doc. And pleasse remember, a lot of docs will not testify to vitamins being of any value when it comes to clearing dysplasia and or dormatizing HPV. Which is weird to me because they know that a stronger immune system is more likely to be successful clearing the dysplasia and HPV and they know that vitamins are useful in uping our immune system strength. Just remember, they are doctors who have to be careful in what they say.

Anyway, keep in touch and let us know how everything is going.

Many happy, healthy days to you! :o)
