My doctor is amazing!

My rheumatologist gave me a letter for jury duty and also a copy which I'm going to use for my social security. He seriously is a lifesaver and I'm so lucky to have such a great doctor. I recommended him to one of mother friends just recently because of how caring and intuitive he is.

My mother is going to pay for the medicine for my scalp, but not the ointment for skin because it's pretty useless. I've been using it for two months and it hasn't worked one bit. Once my insurance is back I'm going to ask to be put back on clobetasol which work amazingly.

You would think supportive doctors are the norm but I've found that they're more of an exception. Glad to hear you have one on your side.

I use a Tea Tree and Aloe scalp conditioner from Isoplus which is oil based. My scalp P is mostly gone now (not due to the conditioner I'm sure, mostly due to reduced stress). But when I had it full bloom oil based conditioners really helped relieve the 'helmet' feeling by loosening scales. Dermasmoothe worked great for me (smells bad though). I still use Isoplus today because it keeps my scalp from dryness and prevents itching to a certain extent.

But if you are able to, you should wear a shower cap to bed after messaging an oil base conditioner into your scalp, or for an hour or so if you're just around the house. Helps loosen the scales and if you alternate this w/ Clobetasol or any other steroid it'll slow your scalp from getting used to the steroid which can happen.

Best,
L

Dear Aletheia,
I lived in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, from 2002 to 2012, Had great doctors, even though was on Medicare/Medicaid. My rheumatologist was Dr. Romano (excellent). Have osteoarthritis, among other things. Presently, in upstate NY, can't find not one dermatologist or rheumatologist that takes Medicare/Medicaid. Also have buildup on my scalp with itching, and saw three internal medicine doctors who could not help me. A nurse tells me to go to the emergency room about it. Wish you the very best, Aletheia, and appreciate the advice from Ltrain. Thank you both!

Dear Ltrain,
Saw your response, and I have buildup on my scalp on only the right side of my head above the right ear. It can build up in only a few hours after a shower. Have itching over entire scalp. Large, beige, oily flakes, with patches of no hair and, on occasion, open sore. Trying to get proper medical attention. Was out in public and saw a man with exact same symptoms, but was uncomfortable approaching him, as he was an absolute stranger. Will try your suggestions. Thank you for reaching out!

Dear Ltrain,
I used ketoconazole 2% shampoo (clear red liquid) and there was a little improvement. Am going to try a second and then third bottle, before trying another medicated shampoo. Thanks again!

Have you tried a change in your diet to combat the P.
Psoriasis is an auto immune disease linked to leaky gut. All foods that are inflammatory in nature must be cut out. Please get "Dr. Pagano's book "Healing Psoriasis" I have had Psoriasis for over 50 years and only through proper nutrition have I been able to clear my skin and scalp over 90%
Another good book to speed up the healing along with Dr. Pagano's regime is Dr. Furhman's "Eat to Live" protocol.
Proper nutrition for the psoriatic is very important. It takes commitment and a strong willpower, but if it is between eating what ever I want and like or having clear skin for ever I choose the latter. Also UV light therapy when one can not get into the sunlight is also helpful.

I suffer from itchy scalp as well as itchy skin and I bought Johnson and Johnson's baby wash (vanilla and oatmeal honey golden brown bottle)
And Johnson and Johnson 2 in one shampoo(light blue bottle)
They smell and work great for me at least.
I wish everyone the best and sorry it's hard to find a good dr who listens as well as who understands
