no more steroids

As from 30 June my steroids stopped. I have been reducing them over the last few months and feel great! if I am still well in about 6-weeks - without the steroids help - then my doc says I will be in remission - again. I can breath properly, i can walk about without pain or collapsing, I have lost all the weight I put on whilst taking the steroids, although only about 25 pounds, the extra weight on my 5ft 2in frame made me look like the Michellin man. But no more. I hope all of you have the same luck as myself and even if my 'luck' only lasts a few months, it will be a nice break. keep smiling and never give up. x

Happy for you...stay healthy

Fantastic that you're feeling well, but....
confused...... have you lost 25lb since June 30th 2009? When you stopped taking the steroids?
All best JLily

:) That's good to hear!

It must be wonderful to get off the drugs. Long may it last.

Great news....may you be in complete remission!!

Wonderful news! Now be good to yourself, moderation in all things figure out your trigger/s and stay away from them.
End of lecture, this is the stuff I tell myself every day -- so far it has been working.

That's great news!!!! I have a question....did u go through any with drawl symptoms?

Hey, way to go Soosie! Congratulations!!! Keeping your weight down also is a positive move to avoid another flare up. That's one of the reasons why the steroids are so cruel. They are taken to achieve some relief from horrible symptoms but the weight gain and other side effects actually add to the illness.
I am very aware that many on this site have actually had their lives saved by steroids. Sometimes they are an evil necessity.
For you, Soosie, I wish a long and healthy life, full of wonderful adventures.

Thanks for all of your good wishes. the 25 pounds I lost has been a steady loss since about March when I started to reduce the preds. I was lucky enough not have any withdrawal symptons. I am a positive person and will continue to smile although yesterday afternoon I developed lock jaw on the right hand side of my face - perhaps it's over-talking as my hubby says! LOL. I will wait and see x

That is wonderful news! I am thrilled for you!! I hope it continues to go well for you!! :-)

I am so happy for you. I think it was funny, I also referred to myself as the Michellen girl. Please make sure you don't stop your care too soon. My doc told me it will probobly be several years before I am well enough to totally stop meds. He feels patients stop too soon. I have been on steriods also for over 6 months. I hate the side effects but have lots of hope for the outcome. I wish I could find someone who only has the illness limited to the spinal cord. Very rare. How did you loose your weight? Did some come off just be reducing the steriods?
God Bless and take care.
