It is so rewarding to have joined this Support Group. The members are so helpful and caring. I now have learned a lot about living with osteoporosis and how I can increase my bone density WITHOUT DRUGS and can use exercise to ease the pain.

Thank you members of the National Osteoporosis Support Group. You have given me hope!!

Would you please share any tidbit, anything at all, that you've found helpful to build bone without drugs. The rest of us are praying for that kind of information - especially those of us who are not good candidates for drugs. Thanks so much.

Dear Dearme,

Sorry, I just can't resist a little humor. You're in good hands here, as there has been a lot of discussion on just this issue. I am taking Calcium Citrate with vitamin-D twice a day. At the same time I take half as much Magnesium. On an empty stomach, I take 680 mg of Strontium Citrate. I also take a 1000 IU vitamin-D once a day, at the recommendation of a rheumatologist.

Of course proper exercise is also strongly recommended. Personally I'm taking alendronate too, but hope to get off that after seeing another rheumy next week. Cheers,

Tom

Tom ,
Have you had a bone density test since you have been taking Strontium Citrate?
How long have you been taking it for?

I take allot of Calcium, and 4000 Iu of D aday.
For some reason when I take K3 , I get leg cramps, also when I take minerals samething happens.
Does anyone else have that leg cramp problem?

Thank you,
April

I started taking Strontium 6 months ago. I also take "Calm" to balance my magnesium and calcium. I am trying to balance my acid/alkaline diet. I started getting hip pain 2 months ago. I am not sure why.

I also take strontium citrate two a day along with magnesium, calcium, lots of vitamin d and fish oils. Of course I am trying to increase my exercise as well. I increased in my hip doing this and my spine stayed the same so it did not decrease..

Alli,
When you had a bone density test after taking Strontium Citrate, did you tell your test taken that you where taking Strontium?
As if you do not, it can give a false reading .
I think you also have to stop taking it for awhile (not sure how long) before taking the test .

I'm consitering taking Strontium Citrate. Would like to hear from someone if it is helping to rebuild bone after taking another scan, and how long after taking it, you have had a scan. Also does the Tec. know first!

Are there any side effects ?
I was sick on Bonvia for two weeks.

Take Care,
April

hi,
I just found out that my vit d was low and dr put me on a weekly vit d prescription. i also have osteopenia in several places. My doctor wants me to take fosamax or boniva. But after reading about side effects, i don't want to chance the body pain and jaw problems. I already have fibrmyalgia symptoms and can't afford more pain or aches. I would love to know what natural solutions that really help are. Also do they stop the bone loss or rebuild it?

April, it's interesting that you are getting leg cramps while on vitamin K, since muscle cramping is usually a sign of a vitamin K DEFICIENCY. I wish we had a bold function so that it didn't look like I was yelling every time I want to emphasize something. Try to imagine that word is stressed, not yelled. :-)

Maybe you need more vitamin K, rather than less? Totally guessing here.

And SharBernie, I'm with you. I'm going drugless as a result of this website as well. Yay for Inspire!

Over the months I have found out that our diet has a lot to do with our health. Also, we in the US eat a diet full of acid foods. Consequently, we develop diseases and the acid destroys our bones.

Now I started to read about alkaline/acidic diet and trying to work out a diet that is alkaline and acid balanced.

Also, I am looking into exercises too. Vivian Goldschmidt has great information and so Dr. Susan Brown.
