Good point, but no, I don't think it is at all strange. What I DO think is strange is the fact that doctors and medical researches haven't noticed this. If they would ask the right questions, they might find some interesting correllations between sleep disorders and these other ailments.
If anyone else is reading Gayle Greene's book Insomniac, she tells an interesting anecdote about the woman who discovered that X-rays can cause birth defects (which is why they always ask women if they might be pregnant before doing an X-ray) by asking the mothers of children with birth defects many questions and looking for patterns and correllations. Unfortunately, this sort of medical detective work is virtually unheard of in the realm of sleep disorders.
Shannon,

Yes, I know what you mean. I found out I have Addisons and suddenly I also have kidney disease, high cholestrol and fluid around my heart! They tell me all this is not related, but I sure wonder, since I was perfectly healthy before January of this year. Can't figure out how all this went so sour at once if they problems are not related.
What is really strange is a lot of people still don't realize that normal American foods and beverage chain are so dumb-downed with lack of nutrients that primary diseases occur through malnutrition. And you're right on Kathy, when it rains it pours!
Hi, and you have my agreement on it as my name says.
It would be interesting to see if there is a group that suffers from the same groups of disorders.
I have Narcolepsy with Cataplexy, Sleep Apnea, Fibromyalgia, neck and spine problems as well shoulder problems, and migraines.
I'm not sure if it hits all at once or if we just ignore some signs until its bad. I agree with the fast food comment too. I cook at home and we don't do fast food often.
Yep!
I also agree. And YES, we are all tough. We have to be to be able to be our own best advocate to all these medical people who want to say that everyone is depressed!
I have dx of;
Sarcoidosis
Idiopathic Gastro Paresis
IBS
Fibromyalgia
Probable MS (whatever that means)
I think all mine may be related somehow to my upbringing. I say that because when I was a child, we did not go to doctors. If we got a cut or burn my mother would pour kerosene (that's right, I said kerosene) into the wound. Ear aches were treated by either blowing smoke into the ear drum or by pouring warm olive oil in to the ear canal. oh ya, Let's not forget the cold! instead of putting a little bit of Vick's UNDER the nose we put a finger full IN each nostril, had to sniff it in, and then EAT a finger full.
I am sure there is more but my mind chooses not to remember.
I think in this day and age all of that would be considered child abuse!!!****
Both my brothers also have very uncommon blood disease and cancer.
Everyone have a safe a blessed weekend :)
take Care,
~Tonya
I find it interesting we all have so many things.I have so many that I forget some of them at times. I have scoliosis, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, cardiomyopathy, fibromyalgia, bronchiectasis, COPD, asthma, 99 allergies 22 of which are severe, sleep apnea, GERD, GAD,carpal tunnel, hiatal hernia, numerous fibroids and ovarian cysts, piriformis syndrome with sciatica, migraines, restless leg syndrome, hypopnea and have had three tia's as well as (wonder why?) mild depression. Guess you all know why I forget!
We are tough as you said. I know heart issues are related to thryoid. Even at low normal! There is a study called the Hunt Study that I am going to be putting on.
With CFS.......you get thyroid issues, adrenal issues, possible candidiasis, low immune functioning, hormonal issues, sleep issues. infection issues. mitochondrial issues that can affect the heart, poor kidney functioning etc etc...............
I would say that covers quite a bit.
Hugs,
Kathi
I watch a program every day that is called KNOW THE CAUSE by Doug Kaufmann. www.know the cause.com
( You can access his daily programs at the site)
He says most diseases have a fungal base. ie chronic sinusitis is caused by fungus.
I absolutely know this to be true because I suffered from it in 1987 and was cured by nystatin to kill the fungus. No other doctor could get me healed. I finally went to a medical doctor/naturopath. He was the only one that figured it out. The other doctors and specialists didn't get it. Doug believes many diseases are caused by fungus getting out of hand. He has a phase one and phase two diet that controls the fungus. If I didn't go throug it myself, I wouldn't have readily accepted his philosophy. I know it to be fact!!!!
Hugs,
Kathi
Yes I know what you mean. I feel like my family is a walking pharmacy. We seem to have all sorts of things. Each one of us has one thing in common and that is sleep apnea. I find that some illnesses cause other problems. I find taking one day at a time is the only way to go.

I agree that when it rains it pours. I have:
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Osteoarthritis
Sjogrens Syndrome
Asthma
High Blood Pressure
Seasonal Depression
Constantly fatigued from all of this and the meds.
Jamie
Just for what it is worth:
Medical researchers and practitioners are well aware of clustering of disease... in all chronic diseases. It isn't something that happens with just one or two but more that having any chronic disease puts you at risk for more of them. In actuality, the use of health care in the population is quite skewed such that only a small percentage of people utilize most of the healthcare because of this effect. Not only is the feature well known, insurance companies literally bank on it and doctors try to build schedules based on it.
I spend my days trying to link the reasons for my diseases also.
I have;
Hypogammaglobulinemia
selective antibody (no antibodies to strep and staph)
I have Zero functioning NK cells
fybromyalgia
liver tumors
tumors on my thyroid
bone spurs
lupus
Zero tolerance to sun light
IBS
migraines
chronic pain
autonomic dysfunction(spelling?)
double vision
many open, non-healing sores (open wounds two years old
All together 32 different diagnosis
This is just so much fun don't ya think? Every day is just guessing which one to treat.
Love and Light to all
In 2004, I was diagnosed with: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, atheosclerosis, stress, depression, and an emotional eating disorder (binge eating). I refused prescribed medication, and went on a trial and error, natural Biblical-based wellness program. Within 4 months, my blood pressure was normal. Within 9 months, my cholesterol had improved and my sleep apnea had improved within two years. In 2 years and 3 months my atheosclerosis reversed itself and my arteries were no longer 70 percent blocked. My cardiologist and my internal medicine doctor were shocked at my progress! They had both given up on me and saw only death because I didn't take the prescribed medication that they felt would make me well again.
I'm a living example of what can happen with a commitment to take control of your health and allow your doctors to be your partners, not your healer. Only God can heal through your actions. To have good health there are things we must sacrifice -- especially poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyles. We must also learn how to slow down, relax and de-stress daily and get at least 7 hours of sleep each night.
I feel great!
yes definitely... its quite a struggle. not easy at times. but still, its so interesting how the body goes wrong, and why all these tihngs happen and all!
its also great knowing that none of us are alone. therea re always other ppl having the same problems that understand and are able to relate to our own feelings. like this community - im fairly new - and i find it very helpful, plus everyones so friendly and all :) :) love it!
What is amazing to me is the percentages of having certain types of sarcoidosis yet so many of us have it in places that are typically low percentage places. On this site alone I think we would tip the scales and blow the "chart" apart. I have in the lymph sytem and recently diagnosed with neurosarcoidosis. I know I have read alot of people on this site with same issues. I have had central nervous system and cranial issues. What are the chances?
wee we just have to try and get on with life.
its christmas sooon and i have 2 boys lol.
im life its sough but having health problems than no 1 can figure is worst
