Aaaahhh Can't sleep Aaaahhh!!!

The past couple of months have been stressful.
I have insomnia caused my POTS and it has just been driving me crazy! I have all this extra adrenaline running through my body during the day that by night I either don't fall asleep at all, or by the time I do fall asleep the sun is starting to rise. Aaaaaahhhhhhh!!
This has been going on for three years and I am tired.
I thought it went away in January but it has only returned with a vengance! I was taking Temazapam which worked wonders but now it seems that I have become immune to it, I can take the max dose and still be up all night. I have tried other meds like ambian and zolpidem both made me feel horrible. I am at a loss of what else to do I just want rest.
I would really like to go to a sleep clinic but my prime doc thinks he can fix it just by adding even more pills to my ever growing list of medication.

Any suggestions as to what might help me get a good night of sleep tonight?

Hi Nina, I too can't sleep, I have graves and its like 24/7 needing to do something....I don't finish much of what I start but it wasn't always like that...I've had always been energetic but thats stopped for the time being, the disease did take over but once I found out, I started the treadmill back up to try to use up more energy, it seems to have slowed down a little. Now I take Methiamzole to try to slow my Thyroid back to normal, 10mg twice a day...It was so much more but the doc told me to lay off the Propranolol which was for my rapid heart rate...Now that everything seems to be working , I still can't fall asleep...Till I started nuking some milk in the wave and putting swiss miss milk chocolate in it. After that I've been sleeping like a baby...Even if its hot outside, still works...If you and your cohorts are going through Oregon, and you go through the Columbia Gorge you'll go right by my house....Next to the Vista House, Multnomah Falls and all the other kool stuff to see....Have a great time and try my method of good sleep

There are many ways to enhance falling a sleep. I usually just ask my wife to tell me about her day and off I go-lol.

Seriously, warm milk, relaxation exercies, and there are over the counter pills that can help you sleep. Night time cold medicine, melatonin, even a couple of motrin taken with a light snack.

Many years ago I took a class on relaxation. It was very helpful. You can probably get a tape or CD from a book store or library that teaches relaxation exercises. I really don't recommend taking sleep medicine-anything can become addictive.

When my Dad died, I recommended my Mom take Melatonin. It is a "vitamin" and over the counter. It did leave me a little hungover when I tried it.

HI Globalwoundcare and Steviemac,

I think I will give the swiss miss milk a try sounds like a good idea.

I can't go to the sleep clinic until Aug but for now my doc just put me on lunesta, I took 2mg at 9pm last night and yet again I was wide awake yet exhausted, I thought I would give some boring music a try and see if that would help but my ipod died at 4:30am after that I just laid there trying to get my heart to slow down, normal heart rate for me is 135 to 140 but it gets higher lately it goes to the 160's I don't know why it was stressing me out so bad last night I should be use to it by now as it is part of my disease.
The type of insomnia I have is from POTS and because I have POTS my body makes to much adrenaline causing the insomnia.
Usually I'm out around 5am but last night I never fell asleep. :(
My body is saying go go but my brain is saying no no. Hopefully I can get some shut eye tonight.

Well its 3:00am and I still havn't fallen asleep :(
I took my lunesta again at 9pm and it had no effect at all. I am sooooooooo stressed right now!
All I want is rest.

Ya, I have Graves Disease too and I had it since i was a kid and it went undiagnosed, it took 30 years to diagnose it, I can finally sleep now. Get your Thyroid and Maybe Adrenal Glands checked. Do you have any other symptoms you may not realize are symptoms, anxiety, depression, fatigue, dizziness?

Funny, I always use to say I had a lot of Adrenaline, but it's quite the opposite, I have Addison's, Graves Disease and Hashimoto's Disease. I really don't have much Adrenaline left now after years of insomnia and finally getting the right medication.

Try trazadone. Its cheap and I've been taking it for 25 yrs. Try valium for when you wake up in the middle of the night. Its also cheap. Pepper1
