hello, mazie. i'm so sorry to hear that you've got vaginal cancer. did you have cervical cancer as well? i've seen your postings about having radiation treatments. are you having chemotherapy to boost the effect of the radiation? i know this has become a standard method of treatment for certain stages of cervical cancer, but i'm not certain if the vaginal cancer treatment is the same.
i've not had cancer. i've been fortunate to catch things early, having recurring dysplasia, and when it was vaginal, vaginal cancer was - and still is - a fear of mine.
i see you're in massachussetts so perhaps you're being treated at one of boston's excellent cancer hospitals such as dana farber. there are others on this message board in the boston area. you've got great hospitals in your area, and i hope you've been able to find a doctor with great technical skills - and great 'bedside manner' as well.
i'm glad to hear you're feeling support here. let us know how you're doing.
I'm sorry that you had vaginal cancer. I did too. I was diagnosed with Stage III Vaginal Cancer in October 2007 and immediately had surgery to remove cancerous lymph nodes and non cancerous ovaries. Radiation shrunk the tumor. I had 6 weeks of IMRT external radiation combined with chemotherapy (cisplatin). I then had three brachytherapy treatments. Now that was fun. I am now in remission and have lymphedema in the abdomen, surgical menopause, post surgical and radiation swelling. I see two different PTs twice a week and a therapist for my head. I'm getting into mindfullness based stress reduction. It seems to help. Love to talk to you and see how you are doing.
