First Day of Cardiac Rehab

0 Recommendations

I was nervous. Like the first day of school. I liked it. The nurses are really nice and everyone there is so friendly. The only thing is I felt like a baby, because most of those who were there are probably at least 10 years older than me. I went first thing in the morning and we live very close to a BIG retirement community..Sun City...so most of the people were from there. Now, when I go in the afternoon after work, I suspect it might be a "younger" group. It helped to know that they were monitoring what I was doing and they won't let me "overdo". I have a tendency to go from 0 to 60. Either I do nothing or too much. So, I think this will be very helpful. And the great part...I exercised for 15 minutes today...did not collapse and was not even very winded.

So glad you are going to Cardiac Rehab. It can give you all the confidence you need to keep active. Do you know how long you will be going or is it open-ended?

After my heart attack 5 years ago I was the baby in the group at rehab, I went to rehab in the morning with a lot of older people and then would go to work. We have a Supervised Excerise Program after rehab that you may join. I was only go for a months now 5 years later i still go. I fell in love with these older people, I laugh all of the time with all them they are really funny and a lot of fun to be around. They all have very good advise for you too. After awhile you will be a great big family.

I go for 12 weeks and then I can chose to stay and pay. I don't know how much. Of course they do advise you to either stay with the program or go to a gym. I live in Phoenix and they do not recommend we walk out here. It's 5:20 a.m and already almost 90 degrees outside.

At 41, I'm definitely the baby in my cardiac rehab group, too. :) I go to an early session then go on to work. It's a great feeling to be exercising again, isn't it?

I only stayed in cardiac rehab about 8 weeks. I could have stayed longer, but I had a co-pay and I was already paying for a gym membership so just started back at the gym. I have been there for 12 years and before that just took aerobics from the parks department. There are about 8 of us "older" ladies that go to an step aerobics class then and we go out to coffee a few doors down from the gym 3 mornings per week. On Friday, Zoomba is on the calendar so that just tops off the week with something fun and different. It works for me. Joyce

Hi lynne,
I was just wandering of how you get started with the
Rehab. I didnt have a heart attack but almost did.I had a stent put in my heart and 99%blockage in my artery.
Any way I made it on time to the hospital. If I would have waited I would have had a massive one.Well thank God for that! Any way You sound like youve been through so much and I admire how much you
have acheived and done. Good Luck with every thing!

The hospital I was in recommended it the day after they put my stent in. The cardiologist wrote the prescription, my insurance was happy to pay for it and I was set. You could ask your doctor.

Hello. Just talk to your doctor and get a referral or perscription for cardiac rehab. It should be paid for under your insurance. It is well worth it. AlaskaGirl
