This is the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association. It has been around for a few decades. The treatment isn't new. But the doctors that do it are few. I encourage you to check it out on the web, and see if it is something that would help you. I've been seeking this treatment since August 2008. It has opened up the blockages in my central nervous system. My doctor says it's like going into a dark room and turning on the light. It is painless and simple and not a severe hit to the pocketbook! And quite necessarily, I reached a point in my life where I'm the tortoise and not the hare! Slow and steady wins the race. The progress is slow but wonderful, up and down, but I expect to be a new person eventually. Eventually. In the meantime, this tortoise is plugging along...and thought I'd throw it out there for your information.

I was pleasantly surpised to read your blog. I too have used NUCCA and have great results. I first started it when i had severe back problems, and it helped 100%. I have also used it since I was dx with neurosarcoidosis, but with not having my job anymore and having to drive a distance to see my NUCCA dr. I havent been so fortunate to see her very often. I know it works and need to get back to her. Im happy to hear that it was benificial for you too.

Please explain this more. What is NUCCA? I feel that it might do me a world of good also. Thanks for your assistance. Everyone be well and take care of yourselves.

I was interested, so I looked up the info. This might help anyone wanting to check it out:

Hi, Mary. Of all the things I've tried just to feel better, NUCCA has been the simplest and the most successful. Fibro will occasionally scream "don't touch me" for a while, but I'm expecting great things from NUCCA, if I can just be patient! :o)

NUCCA is so simple. The idea is that if the axis of the spine - the very top vertebrae - is out of place, our whole body is out of place - and can be the root cause of so many chronic illnesses. The chiro doesn't crack your spine or your neck or anything. It's a specialty that only adjusts the axis, the vertebrae which holds our head and allows our head to move around, by simple repeated pressing (like CPR) right behind your ear (in layman's terms). We jokingly call it getting my head put on straight. My NUCCA doctor said the central nervous system gets blocked when the axis is out of position. By adjusting it, the central nervous system opens up - it's like turning a light on in a dark room. It has been working on me from the inside out - infections I was prone to have been very few and far between, other internal organs have started functioning properly. It's a little known treatment. The simplest and the least expensive - and the most effective for me so far! Like Gooselark said, www.nucca.org will give more info. If you search NUCCA and your hometown, you can find the NUCCA chiro closest to you. I encourage you to check it out!

OK - so I went to a NUCCA doc. I wonder if they all work this way? I like the whole concept and want relief, but I kinda felt like it was a gym membership "hard sell"! He has a treatment plan with a few payment options. It involved 50 visits over a year, 3 sets of xrays, 5 nerve scans, a special pillow and cervical collar for $3,310. You can opt out at any time, so you technically don't "commit" and there are payment plan options. My insurance will cover about $1,000, but that is still a big dent in my pocketbook as I am recently laid-off. My hubby is skeptical (note that he has never had back/neck pain!) and feels like it is a sham. He wants me to get relief, but we just don't have a way to tell if this is going to help me any more than other (cheaper) chiro methods that are better covered by our insurance.
After a consult, a bunch of tests, xrays, one adjustment and then follow-up xrays I have spent $340 in 2 days! Of course I can't tell yet if it will help. The office and docs seem caring, but I am always a skeptic. There is that air of "what am I getting into?" in a whirlwind short time. My hubby is stressing and stressing me out. I am encouraged by other posts saying it helped them. Does anyone else have any feedback on NUCCA method? I am due back tomorrow for my 2nd adjustment.

50 treatments seem like a lot in a years time. When I had NUCCA treatments I first went every week for a month, and then once a month for about three months. I would check into your drs. reason for all of what she is trying to sell you. I also had one set of exrays done at my first appointment, but none since, and its been a few years ago.
Each adjustment was 40 dollars, and if I didnt need one it was 25 dollars. Hope this helps you out-good luck.

Mary

Yes mary - it is good for comparison. The visits are $65 ea and there is not really the option of paying per visit. I opted out for now, although I feel it is a great concept that would probably help me. I just can't afford the commitment it seems to take (at least from this practice - the only one in NJ). Maybe when I am employed again.

Gooselark, I am SO sorry you had such an awful NUCCA experience! My experience was like Mary's. What is really awful is that you only have practice to choose from. NUCCA doctors are few and far between. The one I go to is about 20 minutes from my home - the next closest is 3 hours away. I had an xray and a spine scan my first visit (Aug. 2008), and one spine scan about 2 months later to check my progress. My NUCCA doctor's goal is health and wellness so that she only sees her patients once a year. I had a similar care plan as Mary's, but modified it myself when my fibromyalgia screamed "don't touch me." I went to once-a-month sooner than my doctor planned to, but she trusts that I know my body and she didn't hassle me about it. That's the way it should be. She has other things to offer, too, like the pillow and supplements - but she doesn't force feed them. My visits are $30 if I get an adjustment and $19 if I don't need an adjustment. There is no way I would have continued under your circumstances - outrageous costs for alternative care has prevented me from trying them, too. I'm sorry your husband is stressing - no one can feel better when there's pressure and stress. If only there was a NUCCA competitor for that doctor near you...I am a firm believer in NUCCA, the changes in my symptoms are undeniable. But just like any other doctor, you have to have trust. I did have a terrible experience with a holistic chiropractor - it was a whirlwind and nothing made sense but he was a fast talker and it wasn't until later that night that I pieced together what he was saying, and realized I couldn't work with him. And it turned me off to the idea of holistic chiropractors - which isn't fair, because they aren't necessarily all like him. Thankfully, I found NUCCA. I'm so sorry you can't take advantage of it...yet. Maybe some day. But I wouldn't continue under those conditions, either.

Thanks for your input - I don't think it put me off to the NUCCA at all - I can tell the method makes sense and I even felt something after one adjustment. I even asked if the plan is "all or nothing" and they said yes. Sigh. The cost of doing business in NJ might explain some of this cost. I am sure the marketing of this as a plan keeps some patients involved who might otherwise stray before they get the full benefit of it. I just don't like the arrangement. I am bringing my thoughts to my other chiro who uses the activator method, which is gentle and has helped me the most so far.

Yeah, it sounds unfortunate. It just doesn't have to be all or nothing. That's too cookie cutter, doesn't leave room for individual needs. It's such a bummer...
