New Symptom

2 Recommendations

Well, I am not sure where this one is coming from, but.... I have recently come down with a new symptom.. of what, I am not so sure.
My ankles hurt soooo bad.... It feels like I have two sprained ankles. I have a hard enough time dealing with pain while walking with my bad back and legs, now I have to deal with my ankles too? This just mean that I have to use my crutches even in the house!!! I had gotten lucky enough that I only had to use my crutches in the house once in awhile... now I have to use them everyday???? It sucks!!!

Anyone reading this, any ideas?

Hello
How are u feeling today? Well i hope i can help u.
You must rest your feet for a few hours and rub your ankles with sports creme. It penetrating right to the painful area at night before bed time . I know about that pain. That sport cream have really help me. Let me know how you feel after trying it,okay

Have you checked your weight to see if you have put on any in the past few days? There is a real concern with edema if you are on inhalers of any kind, especially steroid based ones. (most are) If your weight fluctuates more than a few pounds in a day or two you should look at you legs for any swelling or pain. This is probably due to excess water being held in your tissues, not the same as the water you drink. If it continues call your doctor, you may need meds.

that was a good reply by itzykitty. Also for me, my pain will move around. It makes no sense at all to me. Sometimes my knuckle will hurt for a couple months, then it moves to severe pain in neck and etc. Meanwhile I also have pain everywhere but it does move in severity to different joints. Could be you are experiencing that....trust me there is no rhyme or reason.......Oh if there could be....!!!! Sorry you have so much going on. You are too young for this crap. I hope today is a better day!

luv ya;
Dee

I'm not medically trained, so I'm not going to say this is the definite cause, but it's quite possible that your ankles are hurting because your back & legs are already hurting. You are probably moving stiffly and/or awkwardly to reduce the pain in your legs & back, so you're not putting your weight onto your feet and ankles the way you would naturally if you weren't in pain. This unnatural action puts its own stresses on the joints in your feet and ankles, leading to the kind of pain you're experiencing. I know I get a lot of pain right up and down through my feet, legs, back, shoulders and neck, all as a result of carrying myself and moving stiffly and unnaturally to try to protect myself from pain, usually in those exact same areas. Ironic, isn't it?

RuthfromOz said just what I was thinking! Referred pain and "secondary pain" which results from altering your musculoskeletal system when injured. When I first started using a cane - I had all kinds of new pain from my new unnatural gait. Of course - also check for Edema - good thought also. My heart goes out to you - hope you find relief.

Blessings,
Jan (nogo)

Sometimes, I wonder whether I injured myself there in the past (I studied ballet for ten years). The pain in my hips always surprises me- I'm too young to have pain in the hips. Overall my pain is pretty random and tends to move to various joints. I wonder if gentle stretching, massage, or acupuncture would help.

Wow, you all have stated things that make sense. Thank you all for your input. I do use a capsaisin (sp?) infused cream for my whole body. I live by it.. although some days I wish that I could take a bath in it.... LOL
I do have my albuterol, but haven't used it in awhile... and I was on prednisone and hydrochloroquine, until recently, but now I am not on either.
I have gained some weight lately... so I will check into that too.
And yes, I have been walking differently, due to the pain. I use a wheelchair on bad days that I have to go out of the house, and crutches when I am having a not-bad day (I haven't had a good day since my car accident in 2000!!!)
I have been interested in starting my Tai Chi again, I am hoping that the stretches will do some good. Massage hurts WAY TOO MUCH these days; and I haven't tried acupuncture yet, but have wanted to for a long time. Maybe I will try at least once, eh?

Thank you all again for your posts!!! You are the greatest!!!

I'm being treated
(THE SYMPTOMS WITH AND AS IF IT IS BONE CANCER)
with prednoisone and low dose oxicontin.

Has anyone heard of this before?
Feedback Please,
Rj.

p.s.

I don't know how to multi post.

Can anyone help me with this task.

Hi LadyForce,

I agree with all of the above but right now as of lately, our weather is getting colder now, I just want someone to chop off my legs.

My prednizone was stopped some 3 wks ago so it's not that and my dose was very low. I have lost a couple of pounds so it's not that. I do need a double knee replacement but this is not a new pain but a pain that has come back in both legs and I wish I had full leg heating pads. I guess I do, a heat blanket. Turn on the ac, here comes my huge heating pad.

I am soaked in organic muscle rub now on my chest. The reason for my pain? Different drs, different answer so in the mean time breathing hurts and I hate pain meds. Drinking the Slippery Elm tea Paradox told me to buy and drink. My organic's just came in today, hurray.

So sorry you are feeling ucky and worse. But also check your weather. We are now 50-60 at night and being by the ocean doesn't help.

Good Luck to ya,
Gone Natural

Dear LadyForce,
You might also want to have your electrolytes checked to see if a deficiency in something like potassium or something else might be a cause. M y legs seem to bother me a little more at nights now that I am low in calcium and vitamin D although I am not sure whether this is a direct cause or not. I still need to talk to my doctor about it. My mother has said that if she does not take her potassium supplements that her legs start to bother her more with pain. However, before adding any supplements or anything else, be sure to discuss this with your doctor first . I just wanted to throw this out as another possible idea to check into. I hope that you may find something to help reduce your pain. Many hugs and best of wishes.

Warm regards,
Bobbiejo

Have you ever taken Cipro (common for serious gastrointestinal bacterial infections)? There are some nasty "after-effects" involving the major joints.

Bobbiejo... good idea, I haven't had my labs checked in awhile. My new doc is waiting for all my records... I guess before he does anything... which made me a little nervous... You would think he would want to do his own labs, at least... Thank you for your comments...

EmeraldLady... I haven't been on Cipro for quite awhile... not sure they would give it to me now, cuz of all the other stuff that's going on.... Thanks though...

Hi Ladyforce,
Your pain in your ankles sounds like it could be gout to me. If so there are meds that can relieve it. I hope that it is letting up a bit by the time you recieve this post!

Hi LadyForce
I am just sitting here and both my ankles are hurting me as if i had injured them both this minute.
I have a condition called C.R.P.S. Complex Pain in other words. doctors dont seem to know a lot about it although it is around since First World War, soldiers coming home wounded and broken in body. when they healed the pain remained and no one believed them. They were told it is all in their minds. here we are in 2008 and so many people have chronic complex pain and are told it is in their minds or it is depression. I broke my wrist 5 years ago. I am the one who had to educate my local doctor about it.
I looked it up on the internet after the Physio Dept told me i they could do no more for me as my wrist was healed. I kept saying but why am I in so much
pain they said it was R.S.D. (regional sympathetic dystrophy) another name for Complex Pain. this is the way it was explained to me. the sympathetic nervous system goes in to action after we have suffered a trauma to our body and then when the trauma is over the sympathetic nervous system shuts down as it is not needed to protect the body any longer. but in the case of this complex pain the sympathetic system does not shut down because of a rogue nerve end out of approx 900,000 nerves wont allow the system to turn off and the body stays on alert, so people can end up with all kinds of symptoms like nerve pain sometimes around the area of the injury sometimes all over the body, fatigue, sweating, new pains, numbness, tingling, burning pain, depression confusion, loneliness, forgetfulness, heart palpatations, loss of confidence lack of belief in ones self, looking into the faces of doctors, friends relatives who really dont know the pain journey i am are on and cannot see the pain. They do their best to understand but this pain is hard to diagnose and treat because there are so many symptoms and people are so different. I have a wonderful Pain Specialist now after all the years of being alone and people telling me it was in my mind. I have tried many treatments under the care of this man. none have worked yet. but when this kind man looks into my eyes, I know he belives me, that i am in real pain and to be validated on this pain journey is worth diamonds.

I had never heard of your disease so I looked it up. One paragraph said this:

Changes in sarcoidosis usually occur slowly (e.g., over months). Sarcoidosis does not usually cause sudden illness. However, some symptoms may occur suddenly. They include:

Disturbed heart rhythms
Arthritis in the ankles
Eye symptoms.

Perhaps this is why you are having problems with your ankles.

Hi Ladyforce,
This link may be helpful to you as well http://www.arthritis.org/disease-center.php?disease_id=42&df=diagnosed it talks about a few diseases that can mimic gout and mention symptoms that you have been talking about. Also the website http://www.stopsarcoidosis.org/sarcoidosis/diseasefacts.htm?gclid=COKX28W14 JUCFRfAQAodbmuFXg is a great resource. I hope this is helpful!
