I found out that I do not qualify for medicaid, she told me to try to file for SSI but I cannot do that either!
I cannot believe that to qualify for medicaid you HAVE to be pregnant or have kids!! I am not 18 or over 65 so I cannot claim SSI. It is horrible! I do not have the money to pay for the doctor bills and I have only been to one appointment. I so have no idea what to do. I tried calling human services for highlands county, but they said that they are out of funds till October. And thay cannot help me because there are not any doctors that can do any of these procedures in the area. I cannot go to another county and do this because I do not live there! Is there anyone from the orlando area that knows a place that will help me out? I am willing to make payments, but they cannot be too high.

Lakegirl: I used to live in Daytona Beach and there were health clinics that were free; have you not been able to find one there in Orlando? What procedure is it that you need? There are doctors offices out there that will do procedures and charge you according to your income...I just don't know where in Orlando. Go into the Department of Human Services and they MAY be able to give you some information on where you can go. There has to be a place that you can go...I would think! Let us know how everything goes.

Hi--I don't live in Florida but I'm not insured and understand how stressful it is to worry about finances on top of everything else...so sorry you're dealing with this.
Have you tried contacting a hospital in your area? I had my LEEP done at a local hospital that had a Colposcopy Clinic. Larger facilities tend to have financial assistance programs to help people who can't afford the full cost of treatment. It took awhile to get sorted out (just this week, and my LEEP was in February) but under their charity program they reduced my bill by over half and set me up on a $25/month no-interest payment plan. Sometimes even smaller practices will offer discounts and payment plans.
Try to stay positive and have faith that it will work out. And, please know you are not alone!

it may take some work, and lot of phone calls, but there are options out there....as vella posted, check out university or major hospitals in the area and find out if they have a financial assistance department. you also may want to see if there are county clinics in the area, or check out planned parenthood. and, here's a website that will give you some options: www.coverageforall.org You may be amazed at how many doctors and hospitals will provide financial assistance if you're not able to afford your health care costs. let us know how it goes!

If you are referring to Orange County, Orlando, Florida, they have a public health clinic, they have a few in town that have GYN Doctors, what is your situation exactly??? I live an hour away from Orlando and I am a Social Worker maybe i can find out some info, email me at bfly36@live.com

Finaly some answers and help that I can afford! I was on the net and found this site, it is called Needy Meds, it has a list of free clinics in the US here is the link http://www.needymeds.org/free_clinics.taf I found a clinic that does some procedures, my first appointment is on 6/26, and is only about $20. I was shocked because all the places I called it was going to be like $400-$600 for the first visit and like $2000 for a down payment if I had to get surgery.
