HSP

Hi everyone,

I am 28 years old single female, also sharing same pains and sad feelings like everyone with regards to HSP. I was 22 years old when i noticed my rashes. I already accepted my fate and still hoping and praying that someday doctors will find a cure to HSP.

I am quite lucky because we have 2 choices in wearing uniforms at the office, either skirt or slacks. I am using of course slacks all the time to hide my skin rashes at the back of my legs. My PROBLEM is that my work requires me to attend to some business social gatherings. I always turn down the invitations making my colleagues think that i am anti-social. But within me, i really like to attend. I really hate my HSP illness, I can't wear anything aside from PANTS/ JEANS/ SLACKS. I've tried using leg foundation to cover it up but it is still noticeable.

I am also still single until now. I am so worried that a guy interested in me may turn me down if ever he will see my legs.

Do you know an ointment that could lighten my skin rashes (caused by HSP) within a short period of time? Can you please help me out in hiding my skin rashes? Do you know an effective leg foundation? Please help me.

Hi Khaye

I am 49 yrs. old and have had HSP since 1997. As you have found probably found out there is little in the way of information regarding HSP in adults. This disorder does not work the same in adults as it does in children. Children have a good chance of recovery where as in adults it seems to be a permanent thing. I have kidney involvement and trouble with Arthritis and Arthralgia. As you can see from the picture I used to be covered in purpura. This was not limited to just my legs, I used to be covered from head to toe with the spots. What medications has your doctor tried? I was on Sulfasalazine which almost completely removed the spots but had a slight allergic reaction and had to change medications. I am now on Colchicine which has completely eliminated the spots and for the most part the Arthritis and Arthralgia. It might be worth mentioning these to your doctor and see if you might try one of these. If you need anything else please let me know.

Best of luck

My son is 23 and has had HSP for two years now, like you he is careful about letting people see his arms or legs. He hasn't worn shorts or short sleeved shirts since becoming ill and when it shows on his hands or face he doesn't even want to leave the house.

He worried terribly about how any girl he might be interested in would react to seeing his skin. I insisted that any girl worth having in his life would not care about the visible evidence of his illness but would care about him. He didn't believe me and thought I was only saying that because I'm his mom. However he has met a girl, at first he discouraged her not wanting her to get too close, but I kept encouraging him to at least be friends with her. She never gave up on him and eventually won his confidence and they have been dating for about 6 months now.

What I'm trying to say is that there are people out there who will not be discouraged by the HSP once they get to know you. You have to give people a chance and know in your heart that you are worth it.

God bless,
Clara

hi camae,

thank you very much for the encouragement.

You're right, i should give others chance to know my worth. My HSP is not a hindrance.

Thanks and there are people out there like you who understands our situation. God bless to your son and to all those who have same illness like ours.
