I am an activist. I fight against torture, and stand up for human rights. I am a card carrying member of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and of Amnesty International. I've been asked to speak in Austin, San Antonio and Houston. I have written letters to the leaders of several different countries pleading for the release of prisoners of conscience.
Last night it dawned on me, what about sarc? My sister is so ill from this disease, several brain surgeries and a permanent shunt in her brain to drain . . . is this HER fight? I think not. HER fight is day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute just to be a wife, Mom, Mother-in-law and Grandma. I am out here on this website because she allowed me into this part of her life. I am astounded by the numbers of you all. I am astounded on what she has been going through and not telling the family. I am astounded I think there are other people suffering in the world, that are more deserving than she is of my fight for them! No more - no more!
Yes, it does take someone like Bernie Mac's passing to get television time, but I must move NOW, while the topic is in the light!
I do not know where this decision will lead me, but I'm a born again Christian so I know I'm not fighting alone.
