Confusing Report After Surgery

0 Recommendations

The nurse practioner from the surgeons office called with mom's pathology report from her bi-lobectomy. We are all pretty confused as to what it all means....
They removed a 3.5 cm tumor, and all 12 lymph nodes biopsied showed no signs of cancer. However, there were microscopic cancer cells in the margins and pluera, and chest wall soft tissue (?) I hope I'm getting all that right. They staged her at a 2B.
She has her follow up appointment on July 23 to see what's next. She said the doctor may recommend chemo/radiation or nothing.....???

She said mom's cancer was a T3-N0-MX....there's such a lot to learn, I'm so confused. Not sure whether to be happy or concerned about all this????
Guess we'll find out more on the 23rd.

Cancer Surgery Chemotherapy Pain

Microscopic cells in the margin, pleura, and chest wall would bode adjuvant chemotherapy, and good news about the clear lymph nodes.

Good luck,
Danna

Danna,

Thanks for your reply, it really helps to hear from people who have been through this. Thanks for being here for us newbies.

Wishing you well,

Julie

If there are no mx, that's a good sign. The chemo/radiation will hopefully kill of any lingering cancer cells, with chemo being the best for this. Just make sure your mother eats nutritiously and gets lots of rest. If she has any other types of problems, breathing, pain, etc, always tell your doctor right away. Good luck and hang there! JC

Be happy.... My mom was a 2b as well. She is taking her chemo now and I imagine they will have your mom take chemo. I am happy the surgery went well... Good luck and have a happy 4th.
