Dear Harmonie,

You are not the only one - I'm just like you CHF and pleasingly plump. Thanks to the heart medications I have been gaining weight and I didn't need to gain it but loose some.

Merry Xmas

Hi Harmonie

You have written several times here: "I NEED HELP LOSING WEIGHT..."

I'm wondering what kind of help you need.

XOXOXO

Harmonie -- could you share a little bit more about your story with us? I feel like you're crying out for help.....there's lots of help available on this site. Could you tell us a little bit more about yourself?

Dana

Dear All,
Thank you for your interest in my need for help. I gave up my chose of drugs late 1990's. A few years ago I lost my job and stayed home alot. As a result ....I gained substanial amount of weight over the last four years. Now I'm struggling with CHF and boarderline Obesity. I don't have a lot of money and I need to find way of healthy eating, excersie and a healthy outlook,

Hi Harmonie,
Why don't you research mediterranean diet--use google search. Lots of people on the list use some form of this diet. There's no quick fix or magic bullet for heart disease--but there's lots of ways to improve your condition. Try to see yourself as empowered by knowledge-- and go in search of the knowledge you need to revamp your exercise and eating habits.

Doesn't cost to go to the library.
Doesn't cost anything to walk.
Doesn't cost anything to eat less and quit eating processed foods, refined sugar and white flour.

Everyone on this list struggles with issues related to heart disease-- and the people that seem to show the most success take some type of proactive approach to their condition. Read some of the profiles and previous postings by list members. There are folks on this list you can learn from-- I know I have. Join the Friday throwdowns and get active. Quit thinking of your condition as hopeless-- and that you need help. Instead look at this situation as a call to take action.

Tell us a little about yourself--and what steps you have taken to improve since your diagnosis. Eating more salad? Using olive oil?

You might be pleasantly surprised at what you can accomplish.

Happy Holidays!

Barbed

You have taken a lot of loses and it is can be very difficult not to find comfort in food. The only way to lose and maintain weight is to take one small step at a time. Start with taking one less bite at each meal until you feel comfortable with 2 than 3 less bites at each meal. Try to eat apples for snacks. And most importantly is the steps per day. Walking. Start small and go slow over time increase your distance. If the weather is bad just walk back in forth in you living room. The best action is any action. Most imprortantly just keep reaching out.

Lots of great advice from Barbed - pay close attention!

I especially like her suggestion to "..Quit thinking of your condition as hopeless-- and that you need help. Instead look at this situation as a call to take action..."

This shift in thinking might mean the difference between feeling like a helpless victim and feeling empowered to take charge of your life, even if it's only one meal and one day at a time.

There is a ton of useful, free resources out there for all of us - I hope you decide to take advantage of it.

XOXO

When I worked as a nurse, I had people in our practice who needed help losing weight, come into our office (at no charge) and just talk to them about what they are doing and read their diet diary. My advice to them over and above what their diet guru was doing, was to buy good apples...cut one in half and every day between meals and in the evening, eat one half apple with skin (important) and drink a full 8 ounce glass of water. The apple give you a feeling of fullness eating it with the water. The water is good for you and the skin give you fiber and bulk.

They followed whatever diet they chose, but being weighed in and having someone to listen to their concerns about weight loss seemed to help them quite a bit. If you can find a friend to team with, it is very helpful to make a challenge out of it. I did this when I wanted to lose 10# for health reasons. The receptionist and I made a game out of it. We weighed each other in at the beginning and the end of the week and walked for half an hour at our lunch hour.

Give it a try and do try to fine a buddy to go on your weight loss journey with you. It gives you added incentive and the willpower to do it.

Cheers....JOY
