Hello could use some encouragement not starting off very well. I know once I start I will be motivated to keep going its the starting that I find so hard. I keep saying I am going to do this and the I don't. I want to feel better about me. I have to do this for me. I am ready. Not tomorrow but today!

Please tell me more about this group. Do you send us info. or exactly how does it work? Yes, I would be interested I want to do all I can to help my body recover and keep this from returning. Amy

Is there a particular section for exercises - body building, etc. - for osteoporosis patients? I didn't see it. Many "regular" exercises are actually detrimental to those of us with brittle, fragile bones. I'm always looking for good sources of the correct kind of exercises. Thanks!

Hotchmama raises a great point: different sections for different concerns. Her example of exercise issues for those with osteopenia or osteoporosis. Maybe a section for dieting/exercising partners, a section for journaling/ nutrition, etc.

When i look at the Body Challenge entries, there are too many to read every day. And i know there are entries that would be great for me to read. But working full time, taking care of grandchildren and exercising reduces the online time and the time to read Inspire entries! LOL

Some organization/ sectioning would certainly help me with the new body challenge area. Thanks for the forum to learn and share so many good things!

National Body Challenge is a Discovery Channel sponsored weight loss program. It is designed to help people who are overweight to get in shape and start exercising while watching their nutrition. It may be of interest to those who have conditions other than weight, but there is only a limited amount of information in other areas from weight loss and exercise.

I would love to lose weight, but am reluctant to look at the site because I'm sure that I will only see what I cannot do. I know how a normal person loses weight - everyone knows, it's the doing that that requires support. Eat less simple carbs, fat, and sweets. Eat more veggies, fruit, whole grains, lean protein, and exercise. I have gastroparesis and GERD and hypoglycemia and heelspurs and achilles tendonitis. I can't eat most veggies or fruits or whole grains without extreme pain & bloating, and too much exercise also slows down my stomach, which causes bloating & pain & nausea. I've been trying all last year to find an exercise I can do that my doctor will allow me to do that won't slow up my stomach.

Looking at a site that just tells me to do what I can't - again - would be depressing. I want to look, but I don't want to see more well-meaning impossible advice - I get enough of that from my relatives. (Chronic invisible diseases/conditions seem to increase the acquisition of well-meaning & depressing advice.)

I am trying to drop sugar and to do a short inhome walking DVD I found that isn't yet screwing up my stomach (hoping it doesn't aggravate my foot, but getting weight off would be the best help for the foot overall).

Does this site/board actually take into account that most of us on this site simply can't do what is "normal" to lose weight, or is it someone else who doesn't understand?

I started this on 12/30 and so far so good. I have dropped 1lb and I have been working out every day. each day has a different menu and exercise routine There is also a free one month pass for Bally's which I have been using since day 1. The site is also very imformative. Any way give it a shot I am going to go out on a limb here w/bad pun here, but what have we got to lose (lol). It's free so check it out. Good Luck.

hello like to learn more about this site would like to loose some weigth and have support with other people doing the same thing alo have nf1, copo,and other med proples.

Please reconsider attempting any exercises other than what is provided in the NOF Boning Up on Osteoporosis and/or the exercises that the PT's on the osteoporois site have suggested. For those of us with bone loss, we must be very careful with exercise. Most weight loss suggest a "boot camp" exercise mentality. We cannot safely crunch or twist. Please don't jeopardize your bone health. Sandi

i agree with what was said above - first, there are so many entries every day that it takes too long to go through them and 'weed out' the ones i want to read. Having different categories under the main group would be incredibly beneficial! Secondly, I'm in the group of folks who can't do 'normal' exercise because of disease (osteoarthritis and obesity are not a good combination, too much pain in the knees to do a whole lot). Could there be a category for those of us with limited mobility?

I'm glad the group is here, just wish it were a little more user friendly!

I am so excited! I had not lost all of my weight after having my little one in August 2007, and I am a Liturgical Dancer I have to get in shape to dance. I just joined the challenge a couple of days ago. I have the free pass for BAlly's and will be signing up this weekend. I started running/walking already this week. I just worked out with Gilad on Discovery Channel this morning. I have altered the eating as well. The time is now!! I believe when you set a short term goal you work hard o reach it. My 2 year anniversary is Feb 9, and I am "working" to see a difference.

For those of you that suffer from bone issues, water aerobics is very good on joints and bones-no stress on those areas. Good Luck!!

hi. i clicked on this group hoping to find a "buddy" - mutual support & encouragement, accountability, etc. i've decided to set small short-term goals for myself - things that are do-able. if i look at the whole picture and all it will take to get where i wanna get, i'm afraid i'd quit before i even start. for today, i am wearing a pedometer, i've re-joined my favorite gym and plan to do strength training and cardio 3-4 times a week. my short term goal is walking 30 minutes a day 3-4 times a week and drinking more than enough water which i began today as well. i really want to change my self and change my life. the best to everyone beginning this journey.

Wow. Reading everyone's entries and I feel right at home. I have just started the night shift this week and am trying to fit working out into my new schedule. It has been difficult. I have not started a food journal yet, but I have been reading it will be helpful. I have added salmon to my diet, and olive oil and nuts. I need encouragement to keep up. I am so tired on this shift, but am hoping it will get better.
